How to Get an Election Job
Despite the fact that there are a ton of businesses closing their doors forever due to the pandemic, the election itself is actually creating a ton of jobs!
What You Should Know Beforehand
One thing you should know right away is that not all of these jobs pay, especially jobs where you work directly for a candidate. These tend to be volunteer jobs as pretty much all of the money that is raised by the campaign goes right back into the campaign.
However, even the jobs that don’t pay still have other great benefits. For example, these positions can really shine on a resume, and they can be great networking opportunities.
Also, remember that a lot of these jobs are going to go away once the election ends in November. Even though some of these jobs are offering huge salaries, you will only make that money for a short period of time. With that being said, on average, presidential election-related jobs make about $70,000 per year according to ZipRecruiter.
Available Election Jobs
The best way to find an election job is to check your own state’s website for open positions. If there is a candidate that you really want to work for, you can also find work and volunteer opportunities on their campaign websites. Also, on Indeed, there are currently more than 2,000 election jobs available right now!
The follow are just some of the election jobs available now:
- Poll worker
- Campaign supervisor
- Communications worker
- Election support/specialists
Why Should I Do This?
Personal reasons aside, this election is rapidly turning cutthroat, and the country itself is in desperate need of solid election workers. Another thing to keep in mind is that many states are in dire need of poll workers. This is wildly concerning as polling workers serve as the first line of defense for voter fraud. By serving as a poll worker, you can help ensure that the election goes off without a hitch at least in your neck of the woods.
At the very least, you should make sure that you are registered to vote and that your friends and family are too.
Along with helping the future of our country and democracy as a whole, this job can shine on your resume. If you don’t have a lot of experience on your resume, this is a great way to help fill it out.
