Don't find a job, create one.

Finding a Need That Can Become Opportunity

Throughout the pandemic, there is a good chance that both you and people that you know were furloughed or lost their jobs altogether.

Many businesses have changed how they operate entirely, but some of these changes mean that some positions will not return for the foreseeable future.  As a result, many people have started to look into areas outside of their careers for opportunity.

Something that you might want to consider rather than finding a new job is to create a job!

But I Can’t Start My Own Business. What do I do?

Creating a job doesn’t necessarily mean starting your own business. Instead, it means that you are finding a need at an existing business, pitching the idea to the business and finally starting a new job with them.

Don’t get us wrong: if you have the means to start your own business, you should consider it! A new business venture can change your life and create more jobs within your community.

Find a Need!

The best way to create a job is to find a need. Take a look at some local businesses and figure out what is missing in the machine that makes the business work.

Many individuals are introducing safety measures to businesses to help keep both employees and customers safe during the pandemic. This includes people who enforce social distancing, wearing masks and people who take the temperatures of everyone who walks through the door. Rather than hiring someone from within their own company, many businesses are willing to hire outsiders to do this job as they won’t have to take a current employee away from their job.

We’re not saying that you should do this for your new job, but it is an example of something individuals have been doing that has worked.

Learn its Demand

If you remember the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness,” the main character invests all of his money in a medical device, which he tries to sell to local hospitals. Unfortunately although his product is a good one, there is not much of a need for it as many hospitals look at it as an unnecessary luxury.

Remember, even if you come up with something that is needed, it may not be something that is wanted. Remember, you need to find a need that is worth your desired salary.

Learn How to Sell Yourself

If you find a need that is highly desired, you need to then learn how to sell both the service and yourself to this business. This means that you need to really work on your sales skills, your job interview skills and, of course, your resume.

Although we can’t be there with you for your interview, we can be there in spirit with a professional crafted resume.
