employers are using social media to find employees

Use Social Media to Land Your Next Job

Imagine being on LinkedIn looking at one of your friend’s job updates when all of a sudden you get a message from a local business offering you a job.

To make things even better, this time it’s not even an MLM!

If you would like a future where you are offered a job on social media platforms like LinkedIn or Instagram, you’re in luck! During the pandemic, companies that are in need of employees realize that they cannot do the traditional method of searching for job candidates. Gone are the days of coming in with your resume in hand. Instead, many companies are now hiring people entirely through virtual methods.

How Do I Get Noticed By an Employer?

We’ve talked about maximizing your social media profiles before.

To give you the shortened version:

  • Network with industry professionals
  • Read and do research on your industry
  • Share articles about your industry
  • Upload a professionally-made resume
  • Be Active!

What Do I Do If I Am Contacted By An Employer?

If you’re like me, you can be a bit of an eager beaver when it comes to opportunity. There’s nothing wrong with answering the call when opportunity comes a-knockin’, but you shouldn’t drop your professionalism.

Although you may be thinking, “OMG. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I WOULD BE A GREAT EMPLOYEE AND WOULD LOVE TO WORK WITH YOU” don’t lead with that. Instead, say, “Hello Mr./Mrs.… Thank you for your message. I would love to hear more about this opportunity. When could we schedule a time to speak together over the phone or Zoom?”

The other message maintains professionalism and lets the employer know that you are capable of being professional.

Remember, if you seem to eager for a job, it can make an employer think that you will work for a lower salary than others. Regardless of whether or not that is true, you deserve to make the top dollar that the job offers. It’s easier to fight for that top dollar when you act like a professional.

Is It Going to Be Like This After the Pandemic?

The fact is that many employers recruited people through social media before the pandemic. Now that there aren’t many other alternatives, more employers are recruiting this way, and probably won’t go back to the way things were after the pandemic.

Basically, you constantly need to make sure that you have an active presence on social media, and that you are putting your best foot forward.
